High wire spindles (tomato hooks) were originally used in professional cultivation. But hobbyists are increasingly turning to this very effective method of cultivation! Tomato hooks are also increasingly being found in vegetable gardens, in greenhouses, polytunnels, and even outdoors.

They work very simply! A rope or wire is stretched across the ceiling of the greenhouse (see optional accessories). Please note that fully laden plants can weigh several kilos. A rope is wound onto the spindle of the tomato hook. You attach this loosely to the tomato plant near the roots. Please ensure that you do not use any tight knots! Now unwind the string until the spindle can be hooked into the taut rope or wire at the top. The plant will now grow up the rope.

Since tomato plants are not climbing plants, new growth should be carefully wrapped around the rope every 10-15 cm during the growth phase. Once the plant has reached the top of the wire, the tip would normally be cut off. But this is the crucial difference compared to a standard tomato spiral stake!

With the tomato hook, you can unwind the rope from the high wire spindle and guide it down to the ground at a distance of 30-50 cm from the tomato plant. The plant will now continue to grow along the rope towards the ground without being cut off. Once the plant has grown to the ground, guide the shoot 30-50 cm along the ground and then back up again. Of course, the plant can also be guided over a longer distance above the ground or under the ceiling. This depends on the local conditions.

As a precaution, please remove the fruit shoots from the plant stems lying on the ground to avoid fungal infections. This way, you can achieve a significantly longer and richer harvest with little effort from one plant!
